Social Skills Groups
Dr. Mendel offers social skills groups for children and adolescents of various ages. These groups are geared toward children who are socially awkward, extremely shy, or anxious in social situations. Many of these children have diagnoses of Aspergers’ Disorder or High-Functioning Autism, but these diagnoses are not required for participation in the group. My groups are not time-limited; that is, children can join the group at any point and participate as long as it is helpful to them. The maximum for each group is six children.
- Middle school (6th, 7th, 8th grade): Wednesdays from 4:00 to 5:15pm
- High school (9th - 12th grade): Tuesdays from 5:00 to 6:15pm
- Upper Elementary School (3rd-5th grade): Day and Time TBD
If you are interested in a group for your child or teenager, the first step is to schedule a parent intake meeting. I would then meet once with your child prior to him or her joining the group. For more information, please read the detailed group description.
Diabetes Group
For the past few years, Dr. Mendel have been helping young diabetics learn to manage this disease and to cope with its psychological impact as well as assisting their families in dealing with this new reality in their lives. But he has been doing so one client at a time. He is excited to announce that he will be initiating a weekly group for teenage diabetics. The group will be open-ended and non-time limited; that is, clients may join at any point and remain in the group as long as they benefit from it. The start date, day of the week, and time of day will be announced. Dr. Mendel looks forward to hearing from anyone interested in this group.
