Experience and therapeutic approach
A former technology professional and a lifetime artist, I now invite teenagers and young adults to express themselves artistically using art therapy techniques and digital technology. From computers to cameras, making art from digital images is a familiar language for teens and young adults. This amazing opportunity for self expression, combined with the therapeutic process, allows teens to heal, cope, solve problems, and speak out.
Digital art therapy is conducted on a laptop computer which I provide or you may bring your own. Easy-to-use software is provided for making digital collages, digital paintings, cartoons, logos, 3D, music videos, photography, movies and more. Only average computer skills are needed. Digital art therapy is not about technique or learning tough software. It is about creating something simply and easily that reflects self.
Digital art therapy is a valuable tool in the toolbox. It is hope when talk therapy is stuck. It is hope when your teen refuses to try therapy. It is another way to communicate in a language that is familiar. This program was born out of my work with teens in a high school and out of my desire to hear from young people and offer hope.
